Not all math/numeracy difficulties are signs of dyscalculia. Especially in our Singapore curriculum, where understanding math is first about English comprehension, before we can apply our mathematics skill. We have all had our fair share of trying to figure out what a problem sum is getting at, haven’t we? Math has its unique set of symbols and words that can cause confusion and disorientation. Very often, resolving the dyslexia and dealing with the trigger words specific to mathematics, can help the child have the understanding required to handle math.

Hi Christina. My son is dyslexic, ADHD, as well as dyscalculia, dyspraxia, and dysgraphia. He has been accessed and supported since young for his ADHD and dyslexia, but not much about dyscalculia. Now in his early teen, he is still struggling to grasp the very basic problem sum questions. In Singapore, are there any way to get assessed for dyscalculia, and are there any established method available to help dyscalculia students like him to better understand problem sum questions? I've so far tried my very best, and coming to my wits end.
